July Wrap-Up + August Reading Month (2018)

The wrap-up is early this month as well (I tend to do it on the first Saturday of the next calendar month, for those of you unfamiliar with my posting schedule) because I have an exciting post lined up for next Saturday. I had a very good reading month this time around because I’ve been a bit more free lately. I participated in a grand total of 3 readathons already and have squeezed in a fourth that begins on 30th July. Needless to say, I need to get back to my reading because I’ve over-committed as usual, so let’s get straight to the post!

Top Ten Tuesday: Short Story Anthologies on My TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for July 17th, 2018 is: Favorite Novellas/Short Stories. I haven’t read a lot of short stories or novellas, so I wanted to change the topic to suit my reading habits. Recently, I have been curious about short story anthologies as they are great to sample the writing of different authors to see if their other stories would be a good fit for me. If you’ve read my April-May wrap-up post, I had featured an anthology in the June Anticipated Releases section, which is what got me interested in these in the first place. I haven’t read any that I remember, so these are the ones on my TBR. I’ll talk about three of them that are on my priority list and give a quick mention of the others.

Top Ten Tuesday: Indian Flag Colours on My TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for July 3rd, 2018 is: Books with Red, White, & Blue Covers (In honor of the 4th of July in the USA. Choose covers with your own country’s colours if you prefer!) I decided to go with the colours of my country as they are more challenging. If you’re not familiar with the flag, it has 3 equal bands of saffron, white and green from top to bottom with the blue Ashoka Chakra in the middle. However, the flag was not always like this and there is a rich history behind its design. You can check out some Indian non-fiction books discussing the events of the pre-Independence era to know more about that. I’ve decided to showcase 3 books from my TBR having orange, white and greenish hues on their covers each and one that has blue, rounding out the required 10 books for the list. Also, the books having the same colour all belong to the same genre.

June Wrap-Up + July Reading Month (2018)

I can’t believe 2018 is half over already! I’m sure many of you share the same sentiment too. I feel like I haven’t done all that much this year in terms of working toward my personal goals. I’ve decided to try harder in the latter half of the year, so let’s see how well that goes. I also have a lot of new ideas for the blog and I want to start posting consistently at least from now on. I want to change things up with my Bookstagram as well and I’m starting to get more active on Book Twitter too. For now, let’s discuss the reading month I’ve had so far and my exciting plans for July!

June Wrap-Up 2018

What I Read

I started with the Marvel-A-Thon this month and finished 4 books for Phase 1 of the challenge. Unfortunately, this is where I started feeling demotivated to read because I had read a lot of hard-hitting and emotionally-gripping stories back-to-back and I just wanted to take a break from my TBR. Since I’m a big mood reader, I wanted books that would be different from the ones I read. I started on a couple more since then but I haven’t finished them yet, so I can’t count them towards my June tally. Although the numbers aren’t great, all of them were 5-star reads for me, so I’m quite happy with that.

Readathon Tips + July Readathons TBR

What’s more fun than locking yourself up in your room and reading for 2 days straight? Reading with more people locked up in their rooms and updating each other’s progress online of course! This is why some very intelligent people came up with the concept of readathons. If you’re a regular follower, I’m sure you are aware that I do quite a bit of them. In fact, I have planned to take part in three of them this July. I started only July last year with the Summer Biannual Bibliothon and it was such a fun experience that I’m doing it again this year. Some might even go so far as calling me a readathon veteran. Since I’m also organizing a 48-hour readathon in July along with my friends, I thought I would share some tips and tricks to help you have a successful readathon experience.

April & May Wrap-Up + June Reading Month (2018)

I’m so glad to be alive and posting on the blog again! It’s been raining steadily for the past one month now and my favourite month of the year has arrived. I can’t wait to get back into the blogging rhythm again and finally have the time to visit all the lovely people who follow me and chat with me here. Without further ado, let me talk about how my reading went in the month of April and May. After that, I’ll delve into my plans for June. Since I’m a bit more free from this month onwards, I’m attempting to read more than I have ever before and challenge myself, which is exciting and scary at the same time. Hopefully I’ll have only good news to share in my next wrap-up post.

Top Ten Tuesday: ARCs on My Wishlist

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for May 1st, 2018 is: Books I’d Slay a Lion to Get Early. I do believe myself to be an environmentally conscious and non-violent person, so I’d never really slay a lion even if I encountered one, so let me rephrase that to: Books I’d Wish upon a Shooting Star to Get Early. I hope you’re all taking notes because these should definitely be on your TBR as well!
