Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books of 2018 (So Far) + Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for July 10th, 2018 is: Best Books I’ve Read In 2018 (So Far). I decided to combine it with a tag today because I didn’t have a lot to say about my favourites other than I hope that everyone reads it and loves it as well because they’re SO GOOD! I had initially planned to do the Mid-Year Book Freak Out tag on a Saturday post but it just wouldn’t fit in the timeline for this month. Two things to note: nobody actually tagged me to do it (at least not to my knowledge) and although I’ve rated many more than 10 books 5 stars already this year, I wanted to feature some lesser-known but excellent stories so that they get more hype.

Reader Confessions Tag

It seems like the people of the book blogosphere have been noticing my existence off-late. I have been tagged by the lovely Kate from The Backwards Bookshelf for this tag. I would strongly encourage you to check out her blog because she’s an amazing blogger from Philippines who reads and reviews a lot of diverse and #ownvoices books. This tag features a bunch of questions where I reveal shocking truths about my bookish life and then tag my friends so I can get them to confess too. Since I’m an impatient person every time someone mentions the word ‘secrets’ around me, I’m going to spare you the wait and get right to it!

Bookish Academy Awards Tag + My Nominations for the Book Blogger Awards

I’m posting on a unusual day, but please bear with me because I was sick yesterday and didn’t schedule this post ahead of time. 10 points from Ravenclaw for failing to plan ahead for sure! Today I’m bringing you a fun post that would have been lovely around the end of February, but I couldn’t get around to it until now. In all fairness though, Charvi from Not Just Fiction tagged me only in the middle of April, so I’m not fully to be blamed here. This was originally created by the Booktuber Bookadoodles and the way it works is that we take the awards for the popular Oscar categories but we get to pick books as winners! Sounds interesting? Then let’s just dive right in!

The Sunshine Blogger Award

What better time to do this post than on a summer evening, right? I got tagged by The Readers Bay and Charvi from Not Just Fiction. The Sunshine Blogger Award is an award given by one blogger to other bloggers who are creative, positive, and inspiring, while spreading sunshine to the blogging community. I don’t know what I did to deserve to get tagged twice, but thank you so very much to them for doing it! 🙂 They have some really amazing blogs with superb content, so do check them out and show them some support! Before we get into the actual post, I’d just like to talk about how things have been recently for me.

Sunshine Blogger Award

I know I was absent for about 3 weeks on here and it was completely unplanned, so I am sorry for that. Things got very hectic and I just didn’t have time to keep up with blogging and bookstagramming for a while. However, now that I’m back on both the platforms, I’d just like to let you guys know about a few things. During my hiatus and in the past week, I was in a position where I felt really underappreciated as a blogger and content creator. I was even reduced to tears because I don’t really get much support in real life for what I do. The only thing that has kept me going is my limitless passion for books, blogging and the support I receive from the wonderful online community of bookish people, be it on Twitter, Instagram, the comments section of my blog or the blogger groups I’m a part of.

If you’re one of those people and I haven’t shown you much support in return, please know that I’d love to but it’s going to take me a little time to get everything together. I will surely make it my priority to do so the second it’s possible. Your support has kept me going through some tough times here and I really appreciate every like, comment and share. It honestly means the world to me that there are people out there who actively consume my content and actually enjoy it. This blog and blogger would definitely not be here without you and I’d like to thank you from the core of my being for all the love you’ve shown.

Unique Blogger Award

Well, this is quite unexpected, to be completely honest. Since restarting this week, my views have shot up, people have been commenting on my new posts and I even got nominated for a blog award. So far, 2018 has been treating me and this precious gem of a blog very well. To add more cheer, I will be getting a lot more free time in the upcoming weeks because my travel time will be reduced to mere minutes as opposed to the five hours it is currently. If you’re a seasoned reader, you know how much this means to me. I have so many plans for this blog and I can’t wait to share my ideas with you all. Now let’d get to the award, shall we?

Unique Blogger Award Post

I was nominated by Jade from Pay Me in Tea for this award. Thanks a ton! 🙂 She has a beautifully designed book blog and is a fellow tea-lover who also happens to enjoy reading fantasy and young adult books. Do check her out and give her some love.

Let’s go over the rules quickly:

  1. Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
  2. Answer the questions.
  3. In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
  4. Ask them 3 questions.

Intimidating TBR Pile Tag

Every once in a while I like to introduce a little fun into my blog posts with a book tag. There are so many of them that have interesting questions that I’m not sure when I’ll get through them all. For those of you who are new here, TBR stands for ‘to be read’ and is a generic term used by bookworms to talk about the enormous pile (physical or virtual) on their bookshelves that is waiting to be devoured. This tag was created by a YouTuber whose channel no longer exists, unfortunately. I didn’t get tagged by anyone to do this, but found that it fit my state of mind perfectly.

Lately, I’ve been in a reading slump. I’m yet to start a new book in over two weeks, which is starting to freak me out because I’m such a consistent reader. The reason for this is lesser time, lesser energy and the fact that the books I want to pick up are either too intimidating for me or I just don’t feel like getting into at the moment. I’m hoping this tag will give me the push I need to get back into reading again. With that little introduction out of the way, let’s get to the questions.
