Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for January 22nd, 2019 is: Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t Get To.
1. The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien
This was a failed buddy read with Jenna @ Falling Letters but I’m determined to finish it by the end of the year this time!
2. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
I spent a fortune on the UK hardback editions of this one and its sequel, Muse of Nightmares, so I hope they don’t disappoint!
3. The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzie Lee
I loved Felicity, the protagonist in this book, more than Monty in its predecessor, so I’m very excited to see what Lee does with this one and more so because Justine @ I Should Read That raved about it so much!
4. The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
I still have time for this one as it’s on my winter TBR and it’s still freezing out (not really though because I live in the tropics), but all the books in the series are now out and I’m running out of excuses now.
5. Circe by Madeline Miller
This one ended up on so many ‘best of 2018’ lists that I just can’t ignore it anymore! I’m especially eager about this one as it comes very highly recommended by fellow LotR enthusiast Marta @ The Cursed Books.
6. Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa
I was fortunate enough to get approved for an ARC of this but haven’t gotten to it yet! Shealea @ Shut Up, Shealea (who has a shiny, new blog which is definitely worth a visit) screams about this often, so hopefully I can be shamed into picking it up soon.
7. The Gilded King by Josie Jaffrey
I received a review copy from the author a few months back but just haven’t felt motivated to pick it up as I’m a notorious mood reader. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from my peers though, so I will give this a shot soon.
8. Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria
This book hasn’t got a lot of hype since its release, but I’m hoping it’ll surprise me. I first mentioned it in my fall TBR, so I have to get this done soon!
9. Outrun the Wind by Elizabeth Tammi
The world of Greek mythology is one of my favourites and as this book features an F/F romance, I’m even more stoked! This is another ARC that needs to be read very soon.
10. Time Crawlers by Varun Sayal
This is a short story collection that the author kindly sent me for review and one of the very few SFF books by an Indian author I’m aware of. It’s high time I sat down on a cold evening and breezed through it in one sitting!
Which 2018 book have you carried forward into 2019? What books suggested by your bookish friends are on top of your TBR? Let’s discuss in the comments section below!
This is a great list! Coincidentally, I’d say 90% of these titles are on my list of books to read this year too!

Oh yay, I really hope you enjoy Circe! ♥️ Thank you so much, I really hope I do too. 😅 Ooh yes, they are the metallic sprayed edges one that Illumicrate did, if you’re familiar. 😍

I’ve lost count of the number of people who have told me Circe is amazing. 😂 I really, really need to read that one soon. 😊 I’m glad you liked Strange the Dreamer! I abandoned it once because I wasn’t in the mood for it and I’m putting it off for no reason at all at this point. 🙈 But I’ll definitely read it soon. Thanks for sharing your opinions! 💖

I read and enjoyed both Circe and Strange the Dreamer. I would say out of the two I enjoyed Circe slightly more. I think because I enjoy mythology so much.

I love mythology too! I think Rick Riordan really made me appreciate it and now I’m a sucker for anything of that kind. 😍 I’m glad you enjoyed them and thanks for sharing your opinion! 💖 Now I’m a little more excited to pick up those two. 😊

Ahh, Nandini we have so many books in common. I can see this is gonna be a year of buddy reads for both of us (if I am able to read at all 😛 ). Strange the Dreamer, Lady’s Guide, The Bear and the Nightingale, Circe and Outrun the Wind.. all are on my TBR 😀

Yes, that’s honestly my main reading goal for the year. 🙈 Thank you so much, Jenna! ♥️ You should totally pick it up when you’re in the mood for something light and fun. I’ve heard the audiobook narrator is excellent, if you’re into that. Hope you enjoy it! 😊
