Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for October 9th, 2018 is: Longest Books I’ve Read. There are several different ways to interpret this but I’m going with the most straight-forward one. I read books in several different formats, so it’s tough to compare those. Instead, I’ll be listing the top ten books that felt like they were long to me as I read them rather than look up and compare page counts on Goodreads. Also, I’m only going to mention a book from a series just once.
1. The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
2. The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J. K. Rowling
4. Inheritance by Christopher Paolini
5. Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke
6. A Conjuring of Light by V. E. Schwab
7. Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
8. The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch
9. American Gods by Neil Gaiman
10. The Golem’s Eye by Jonathan Stroud
What are some of the longest books you’ve enjoyed? What is the longest book you’ve read in your favourite genre? Do you have any long series/book recommendations for me? Let me know in the comments section below.
I read some long books. The Hero of the Ages didn’t make my top 10. Here it is:
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy – 1,392
The Power Broker by Robert Caro – 1,344
Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson – 1,248
The Lord of the Rings JRR Tolkien – 1,216
A Storm of Swords by GRRM – 1,177
Master of the Senate by Robert Caro – 1,167
The Stand by Stephen King – 1,153
A Dance With Dragons by GRRM – 1,125
The Walking Dead compendium 1 – 1,088
The Walking Dead compendium 3 – 1,088

Ah, I didn’t put The Lord of the Rings together. I talk about it here way too often anyway. 😂 Wow, I really need to get to the Stormlight Archives soon. That’s quite an intimidating stack you’ve got! 😅

Great list! My TTT looks at the longest books I’ve read in the last two years.

A lot of the books would have been the Harry Potter series, but I decided to remove a majority of them since they took up most of the list.

Yup, I used a one book per series rule too. Would love to check out your post! ☺️

Wise Man’s Fear is one of mine too 😀
I think the longest i read was The Stand by Stephen King.

Stephen King’s novels intimidate me so much! I really want to read his fantasy books but I just haven’t found the right time. 🙈

They are quite on the long side, that’s true!
His shortest fantasy is The Eyes of the Dragon, and it’s pretty tame compared to his usual things ❤ 🙂 He originally wrote the story for his kids.

I really want to read his Dark Tower series I believe it’s called? It was supposed to get an adaptation last I heard. 🤔

Oh, it’s my favorite series ❤
The movie adaptation was horrible (if you ask me). I went to see it with my friend. She never read the books, but even she wasn't really impressed. I was very disappointed cuz it had barely anything to do with the book.

Then I’ll just read the books and skip the movie. Thanks! ☺️

Wise Man’s Fear and Order of the Phoenix would be two of mine, too! I’d have to comb through my collection to know what my exact list would be… but I’m pretty sure that most, if not all, of George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire books would be on there. When you’re a fantasy fan, sometimes you have to be prepared to “run a marathon,” so to speak. XD
Omnibus editions of a series wouldn’t count, would they? Or short story / novella collections? I own a few of those, and they’re pretty hefty in their own right.

I haven’t read ASoIaF books and don’t plan to, so that’s probably the only thing missing from my list compared to other fantasy bookworms. 😅 Well, I didn’t consider them but I think it’s okay to count them.

Inkdeath and Inheritance are on my list as well! A Conjuring of Light didn’t make my top ten, but it did feel like a very long read while I was reading it…

I took almost a month to finish A Conjuring of Light, so it felt very long to me too! 😅 I’m glad to hear that because that’s quite a rare match for fantasy readers. They mostly tend to have Lord of the Rings or A Song of Ice and Fire on the list more often.

Thankfully I’m not ASOIaF fan, so I didn’t have to worry about those books crowding my list 😛 I count The Lord of the Rings as one book – it did take the top spot for longest book. (Even though i don’t like long books, the longest book I’ve ever read is my favourite book, lol.)

Oh good, I’m so glad there’s someone to join me in the minority of non-ASoIaF fans. 😂 Well, if I count it that way, the complete Lord of the Rings along with the appendices makes it the longest book for me too! And yes, it’s my favourite book as well! ♥️ I used to like long books as a child. There was something special about reading ginormous books while my friends found the thinnest books possible in the school library. 😅 But now that I’m a busy adult, u feel intimidated by big books. 🙈

I really like seeing these lists!
My main reason for not having read the name of the wind yet is it’s size.. I know I should read, because big chance that I will really love it, but the book just scarces me..
