July is the months for all things Harry Potter, so I got on board too. Initially, I wanted this post to be about some famous problematic books and how it’s okay to like them as long as you’re aware of the nature of the content, but I’ve been writing serious posts lately all the time, so I decided to take a break and do something fun instead. We’ll reserve that discussion for some other day, shall we? For today’s sorting ceremony, I’m doing four characters each from different books across genres for a bit of variety.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Lucy – Gryffindor
Even though she’s the youngest, she’s the closest to Aslan, the most adventurous and is always courageous enough to stand up for what is right.
Edmund – Slytherin
Since he discovers Lucy’s secret and comes to Narnia, he’s consumed by his greed that the Witch encourages and trades his family to feed his ambition.
Susan – Hufflepuff
Of all the siblings, her character is the least fleshed out, but she assumes the caretaker and elder sister role effortlessly while also fighting to keep those she loves safe.
Peter – Ravenclaw
With the burden of responsibility on his shoulder, he always seems to consider things practically, is resourceful and clever when it matters.
The Illuminae Files
Kady – Ravenclaw
She has mad coding skills, the ability to analyse situations carefully and set aside her feelings to get the job done.
Ezra – Hufflepuff
Ever the hopeless romantic, he is compassionate, hard-working, patient and the undisputed softie of the group.
Hanna – Gryffindor
She’s fierce, doesn’t give in to fear when it counts, is a trained martial artist and puts her life on the line repeatedly to save others.
Nik – Slytherin
He’s the quintessential bad boy, bending rules when it suits him and a sharp tongue at the ready which gets him into more trouble than he can get himself out of.
Salt to the Sea
Florian – Slytherin
He is an expert in forgery and deception but puts his skills to use to fight against the monsters of that time.
Joana – Ravenclaw
She’s a competent nurse, a pragmatic survivor and does her best with whatever she can get.
Emilia – Gryffindor
She goes through unspeakable trauma, but hides her pain under a guise of innocence and soldiers on despite insurmountable odds.
Alfred – Hufflepuff
A sensitive soul whose loyalty lies in the wrong place, he justifies the cruelty he sees around him by reiterating his blind faith in the propaganda that he’s fed and works hard to impress his superiors.
Do you like sorting characters in the books you read? Which house(s) do you belong to? If you’ve read any of these books, do you think I’ve sorted them correctly? Let me know in the comments section below.
Fun post π I do this a lot! I’m a Ravenclaw (said the book blogger lol). I haven’t read the Illuminae Files (TBR) or Salt to the Sea. I totally agree with Lucy and Edmund! Some people put Lucy as Hufflepuff but she is definitely a Gryffindor! I think I would probably swap Peter and Susan though. Susan is a bookish kinda girl and I think Peter has a little Cedric Diggory about him

I hope you read them soon and then we can discuss the other sortings. π Glad you agree! Hmm, that could definitely work as well.
My reasoning:
When they grow up, they are called Queen Susan the Gentle and High King Peter the Magnificent. I’m a Ravenclaw too so I was partial (Ravenclaws are obviously magnificent π) and ‘gentle’ is a very Hufflepuff trait, which is why I sorted them that way.

Which house do you think characters from Lord of the Rings would end up in? I feel like Frodo would be Gryffindor

I’ll surely have a post up on that soon. π Hmm, I would’ve sorted him into Hufflepuff and Sam into Gryffindor I think.

Yeah Sam would definitively be Gryffindor! But why would you put Frodo in Hufflepuff?

Because at the end when courage really mattered, he fails. He also is compassionate towards Gollum and gives him more chances than he deserves, whereas Sam outright distrusts him. Once the quest is done, he sort of fades into the background as well, which I don’t think is a Gryffindor trait.

I haven’t read all of these books, so I kept scrolling for characters who are familiar to me. However, Salt To The Sea is still on my TBR, so i will eventually get to know those 4.

I’m sorry about that! I had planned a different post but then decided to change that (as I said in the introduction part), so I included some characters that I could think of at short notice. What kind of genres do you usually read? I’ll try to keep those in mind if I do this post again. π

I would highly recommend the Illuminae series as I’m sure it has elements that you will enjoy. If the audiobook is available via a local library or something, do give it a try and let me know what you think. π

I actually do have the first two audiobooks.. bought them during a sale… and I donβt read sci-fi at all but have a feeling this format might be a good start for me in the genre…
Hopefully Iβll start it soon ππ

Yay! π It’s not heavy sci-fi in the sense that it doesn’t contain a lot of science and tech terms, so anyone can easily understand. Hope you love it as well! π

I hope so too ππ

Aaahhhhhh I loved this post!! Iβm new to Harry Potter and recently sorted myself into the house (check out my post!) so I havenβt been introduced to a lot of characters in HP series apparently. But Narnia choices done all right ππ»ππ»ππ»

Interesting! I might have put Peter in Gryffindor and Lucy in Hufflepuff, but I like your reasoning. Lucy really is very brave!

Yeah, I thought about that at first but settled on this. I think they share traits from all the houses a bit and makes it difficult to sort them, which is why it’s interesting to know how others might interpret their characters.
